Lancope Appoints Jethro "Jet" Defensor to Launch U.S. Government Initiatives ATLANTA, Ga., December 15, 2003 - Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of behavior-based threat detection and network intelligence solutions, today announced the appointment of Jethro "Jet" Defensor as director of Federal Sales and Business Development. In this new role, Defensor will work closely with David R. Schwickerath, vice president of Worldwide Sales, to accelerate Lancope's presence and growth in the United States federal government market. Defensor will focus on delivering Lancope's StealthWatch system to all U.S. federal government agencies, which industry analysts project will spend approximately $62 billion on IT in 2004. According to a recent federal government announcement, fifty major metropolitan areas and several transit agencies will get an additional $725 million ($675 million from Homeland Security Department) to help improve security and readiness to respond to terrorist acts. Earlier this year, the federal government provided over $700 million for high-threat urban areas. "Defensor's proven track record in selling technology to the federal governments makes him a significant asset to Lancope, and his addition to the Lancope team demonstrates our continuing commitment to the federal market," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "His knowledge of how government agencies purchase technology is invaluable in helping Lancope expand its presence in the federal sector, a key market for innovative security products like StealthWatch." Currently in evaluation for Common Criteria Certification, StealthWatch by Lancope has been deployed at over 50 government agencies, academic institutions and Global 2000 entities, including Georgia Technology Authority and Naval Postgraduate School. In addition, Lancope recently launched StealthWatch+Therminator for unprecedented visualization and patternless detection of attacks in real-time. Lancope developed the product in cooperation with the National Security Agency, the Defense Information Systems Agency and the Naval Postgraduate School. Defensor brings over 17-years of experience to Lancope in the areas of sales, marketing, product development and professional services. Prior to joining Lancope, Defensor developed his expertise in network security as a former federal account manager for Nortel Networks, where he secured numerous multi-million dollar contracts. Previously, he has also held key positions with Alteon Web Systems, Standard Microsystems Corporation, Zenith Data Systems and Falcon Microsystems, Inc.
