Lancope Selects SAIC's Common Criteria Testing Laboratory for NIAP Common Criteria Validation of StealthWatch™
ATLANTA, Ga., August 6, 2003 - Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of Advanced Threat Protection solutions, today announced the selection of SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) and its Common Criteria Testing Laboratory (CCTL) to perform a Common Criteria evaluation on StealthWatch, the behavior-based Intrusion Detection System for optimizing security and network operations. The prestigious certification will demonstrate StealthWatch's compliance with strict US Government criteria and exacting International Standards Organization requirements. SAIC's CCTL was one of the first commercial labs to be accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program to operate within the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) established by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).
"The federal government increasingly requires innovative network security solutions, like StealthWatch, to effectively manage the security posture and operations of the nation's critical network infrastructure," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "With Common Criteria Certification of StealthWatch, Lancope will be ideally positioned to provide government agencies with a solution that protects against internal and external attacks, uncovers security risks and enforces policies across the network."
The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation is the first international standard for evaluation of Information Technology security products. The NIAP, a joint program sponsored by the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, validates the results of the IT Security evaluations for conformance to the Common Criteria. Sixteen countries now recognize the Common Criteria as the official third-party evaluation criteria for IT security procedures. Within the U.S., several government and civilian agencies, including the DoD, are requiring new products to be tested against the Common Criteria in accordance with the National Information Assurance Acquisition Policy - National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy No. 11.
The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation defines general concepts and principles of IT security evaluation and presents a general model of evaluation. It presents constructs for expressing IT security objectives, for selecting and defining IT security requirements and for writing high-level specifications for products and systems.
